2:00-4:00 Tour and discussions, Fermilab Magnet development facilities
This is a detailed technical workshop for companies interested in the R&D and manufacture of the approximately 18,000 non-superconducting magnets for the ILC. The purpose of the workshop is to:
- Brief manufacturers on the quantity, schedule and proposed specifications for the over 18,000 magnets required for the ILC.
- Critique the proposed hardware and material standards which are required to achieve the performance of each magnet type.
- Identify and prioritize the risks and issues of procuring at least one third of these magnets from U.S. manufacturers on the current ILC program schedule.
- Develop a preliminary program plan, including estimated funding requirements, for working with industry to reduce the risks and manufacturing costs of ILC magnet systems. This plan would cover the next three years, and would include materials R&D, prototype testing, tooling requirements, reliability and maintenance.
- Tour Fermilab magnet development facility
