The International Linear Collider Steering Committee has endorsed superconducting or "cold" accelerator RF technology.

In collaboration with other laboratories, universities and industry, Fermilab is progressing in the development of the electron source for a cold linac; design of a damping ring to "cool" the motion of electrons and positrons, so the beams can be tightly focused; development of simulation tools to study beam transport from the damping ring to the interaction point; and design, production and testing of a cold niobium accelerating cavity and its power input devices.
