The International Linear Collider is a proposed future international particle accelerator. It would create high-energy particle collisions between electrons and positrons, their antimatter counterparts. The ILC would provide a tool for scientists to address many of the most compelling questions of the 21st century-questions about dark matter, dark energy, extra dimensions and the fundamental nature of matter, energy, space and time. From its inception, the ILC would be designed, funded, managed and operated as an international scientific project.
The particle physics community has chosen a single technology for the new accelerator, opening the way for the world community to unite and concentrate resources on the design of a linear collider using superconducting technology. Fermilab Director Michael Witherell has committed Fermilab to a leadership role in working with the U.S. and international particle physics community and the Department of Energy Office of Science to design and build the proposed ILC. These Web pages present Fermilab's efforts in support of the ILC, in collaboration with laboratories and universities around the globe in an extraordinary scientific project.
